The awe inspiring history and accomplishments of the SR-71 "Blackbird" is truly the story of American aerospace itself. Developed for the USAF as reconnaissance aircraft over 40 years ago, SR-71s are still the world's fastest and highest-flying production aircraft. For the entire life of the "Blackbird" it undertook missions in hostile areas that no other aircraft could attempt. Because of the SR-71, our freedom has been preserved and our world made a safer place. This awesome aircraft, its traditions, accomplishments and history must be preserved for future generations.
